Festivities...

Ava's birthday festivities started a couple days early with a surprise balloon bouquet from her Mimi & PawPaw.  This child LOVES balloons.  (not that most kids don't...)  We couldn't have timed it more perfectly, Ava had just gotten up from a nap when the balloons showed up.

(bad angle, but I tired)

She was thrilled, and the balloons lasted until just this week.  And they probably would have lasted a few more days but they were starting to droop.  Not only does Ava love balloons, but she loves popping balloons.  So with Daddy's help, Ava popped the remaining balloons yesterday.  Who knew they would bring double the fun.

Ava's birthday was on a Tuesday this year, and since I work on Tuesdays we took the day before to hang out and do some birthday activities.  Being so ridiculously busy, we hadn't bought Ava's presents, so Ava and I headed to Toys R' Us.  Last year I signed Ava up for Geoffrey's Birthday Club, so I knew she'd get the special treatment and a balloon - which of course would make her day.

I'm sure you can't tell how excited she is  :o)

We spent a little time playing with Thomas and the other trains, she had the whole table to herself.  Then purchased Ava's present, somehow without her seeing it.

We waited until Daddy got home and then had dinner and cake and then let Ava open her presents.  We added to her legos, which she loves, and got her a whole bag of Dr. Seuss books.
(Please disregard the potty chair... I didn't edit these photos before uploading. It's also funny to look at the pictures in our living room, as it's not that color anymore.... you can see 1 coat of the new color at the bottom... including the painters tape that is still up!  LOL )

On Saturday, we had a little get-together for Ava and a few of her friends.  This gave us an excuse to see some of our friends... at least that what I had planned and hoped for.  Inevitably, after 30 minutes I thought, "What the H**L was I thinking?"  As the host you can never truly enjoy yourself unless you have someone else do the party for you.  But we had fun anyone, and I did manage to stand still for a few minutes.  Ava's party was a pool and sprinkler party, and we had been worried about the weather since it had started to cool down.  But it turned out to be the hottest day we had had in weeks, it was in the 90s and sunny.

And just a few more pictures of our 3 year old.  It's hard to believe how fast the these three years have passed.  We both go to call her "the baby" and realize she isn't a baby anymore.  (She'll always be our baby though)

Ava and her attitude, she's 3 going on 16.  One minute it's this:

"yes?..."

and the next it's this:

Ava started pre-school last week.  She absolutely loved it.  It's 3 days a week at her daycare, and on Thursday when she was just going to daycare for the day, she wanted to take her special pre-school tote bag they had made earlier in the week.  Ms. Alissa had told all the kids it was their responsibility to remember their tote bags and their Mommy & Daddy had enough to remember.  Ava remembered.

She was so stinkin' excited she wouldn't stand still.  I was lucky to get this picture.  And apparently she wouldn't sit still in class either, she ended up sitting with Ms. Alissa her teacher.  She sure is one handful...  but a wonderful handful and a wonderful Blessing.  Like I said before, 3 going on 16... here we go!

Ava's 1st Haircut...

Yes, Ava is going to be 3 in 15 days, and yes, this really was her first haircut.  Daddy likes his little girl to have long hair (and apparently his Wifey too... as he's asked me to grow my hair out as well!).

Ava's hair had gotten so long and it needed to be evened up so we headed over to Kidz Cutz by Carey on Monday 8.1, and had such a great time.  We were the only ones there and Ava got the royal treatment.

There were 3 different kid's seats, and Ava got to choose which one she wanted to sit in.  And what is Ava looking at?  Curious George on TV.  There were small flat screens mounted at just the right height (for head tilt) so Ava could watch while Carey cut her hair.

Lambie also went with us...
thankfully he is needed less and less.

 All finished!

And of course Ava has to try out the other seats as well.  She hopped on the motorcycle first, and then...

the jet... it would have only been better if the 'vehicles' would have moved.

Once she was completely done, Ava got to pick a 'treasure' and she also got a lolly pop for being so good.  We also got a certificate for Ava's first cut as well as a lock of her hair.  I wish we had a better before and after shot, but all in all, we cut off 3".... WOW!  But her hair looks so much healthier, it isn't scraggly on the ends, and it even looks thicker.  And you can bet, we'll be going back to see Carey for our next haircut.

Congratulations...

Congratulations on your engagement!

Looks like we're going to have a busy wedding year next year..

Our Annual Lake Trip...

We've made it a tradition.  Each 4th of July we head to Tygart Lake in WV for some family fun in the sun.  You can see our 2010 trip here, and our 2009 trip here... not sure that I documented other previous years.  We all enjoy getting down to the lake each year, and Ava has been asking recently if we could go again.  I wish we could get down there one more time this year, but with my work schedule, I don't think it's going to happen.

Anyway, we had a great time as usual, even when the electricity went out.  There is a picture floating around somewhere of Nathan, Derek, Chelsea, & Amanda making homemade icream by hand... it turned out quite well despite the fact we didn't have power.  A big storm blew in during dinner and we got caught at the cabin and had to wait out.  The weather had been beautiful that day, hot and sunny (although you'll see our super white skin didn't get much sun), but after the storm the temperature dropped and we ran for long sleeve shirts and jackets.  But homemade icecream... it can't be wasted!  So we ate/drank it by the campfire.

As for Miss Ava, she is fearless, and it really showed this year.  Af first she would jump from the dock (quite low) while holding someone's hand.  One of the girls (Amanda, Chelsea or Shelley) said "I think we'll have her jumping by herself by the end of the weekend.  It was about 10 minutes later Ava was jumping by herself off the higher landing.  Then we couldn't stop her.  She is a fish for sure!  I can't imagine what next year will bring, but I know fore sure, it will be tons of fun as always.

Here are some pictures of our weekend.  If only it had been longer.  (pictures are out of order)

Welcome to WV!

this was the closest we could get of a picture of Ava with her Gigi... Ava didn't stop moving the entire time we were down at the lake.
